IOM to support UK nationals to regulate their status in Malta

Increased support for UK Nationals to maintain their residency rights in Malta ahead of the 30 June 2021 deadline is launched today . The new programme by the International Organization for Migration (IOM is part of a wider initiative called the UK Nationals Support Fund, funded by the UK Government and supported by the British High Commission in Valletta to reach and provide assistance to British citizens in Malta.

Laurence Hart, Director for the IOM Mediterranean Coordination Office, said: “We are delighted to be able to take forward this extremely useful and valuable activity here in Malta”.

UK nationals in Malta need to re-register and obtain the new Withdrawal Agreement residency card by 30 June 2021. “This initiative will provide direct support to UK nationals to ensure they avoid losing their rights to stay and live in Malta.” underlines Hart.

Information will be made available on a dedicated webpage on the IOM website complementing the British High Commission’s information on its Living in Malta page. IOM will also be offering help to individuals facing specific challenges, especially those with chronic disease, disability or those experiencing language or technical barriers via a dedicated helpline and one to one support.

British High Commissioner to Malta, Cathy Ward said: “It is vital that all British Nationals who were living in Malta before 31 December 2020 and want to continue to do so must re-register with Identity Malta before the 30 June deadline. This extra resource will be available to help British Nationals access the necessary information about their residency requirements and provide direct support to complete the paperwork for all those who may find this difficult.

“We welcome IOM’s new service for UK nationals to help them regulate their status here in Malta, so they can continue to enjoy living in this wonderful country.”
