OUR WORK
Our WorkAs the leading inter-governmental organization promoting humane and orderly migration, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. Across Malta, IOM provides a comprehensive response to the humanitarian needs of migrants and aids in relocation and resettlement.

Malta has been a member state of IOM since June 2, 2004.
The first project was implemented by IOM in Malta from June to December, 2006. It was funded by the European Refugee Fund and aimed at introducing AVRR in Malta, with one pilot case. Prior to that, the Maltese Government was involved in a number of EU, transnational projects in preparation of its accession to IOM and the EU and the activities were managed by the IOM Mission in Rome.
The IOM office in Malta was opened in April 2007, on the basis of the Cooperation Agreement between the Government of Malta and IOM on December 18, 2006.
